Comments: My husband has been researching his family tree for nearly 5 years. He was always told they're Irish, but the name comes up as Scottish. Maybe he's Scotch-Irish? Guess that's beside the point, though. I'm here because he wants me to build a family website, but he's not sure how he wants it set up. I'm searching for ideas by browsing others--like yours. You've done a great job. (Love your leprechauns.)

Comments: I am originally from MA where my grandparents settled. My grandfather was Michael Matthew Burke and came from Tipperary in about 1882, He was baptized in Galbally parish, and his father was Matthew Bourke and mother was Ellen Bourke. I am looking for more relations, but think some of them may have settled in Illinois, as Michael married Maude Ethel Sauer, and her family was in the cigar business in Illinois. I am not sure of that. A lot of our relatives were from Maine...including ties to the Betsy Ross family and Margaret Chase Smith family.
Your site is really informative, and I enjoyed it. I am just starting my roots after doing my husband's, and I don't have much but grandfather to go on.

Comments: Found your web site extremley informative and appreciate the effort you have gone to. Searching William Westacott immigrated to Victoria, Australia in the Jun of 1889 aboard the 'Liguria'. He immigrated with his wife Matilda JOHNSTON (born 1859 in Halifax, Nova Scotia) and thier children Alice May WESTACOTT and WIlliam Harold WESTACOTT. They had two further children both born in Warrnambool, Victoria, they were Gladys Lillian WESTACOTT 1889 and Violet Irene WESTACOTT (my g g'mother). It is believed that WIlliam WESTACOTT perished at sea on one of his numerous trips, although I have been unable to confirm this. Therefore any information you may have in relation to the above William WESTACOTT would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You, Julia Calenda, Victoria, Australia

Comments: Been in genealogy long enough to know that informations will come quickly and then die. Some people won't even give you a name, and others with give you everything. Still looks like old William B Wescott (1824) Lysnader NY just didn't have anyone, as if he never exsisted. We know he did, his son Daniel Young Wescott died in 1937 in AR. Some counties and some states just don't have a record of anything. And some elder relatives don't even know theiri own birthdate, and others, have everything written down for generations. We researchers have to reli on word of mouth and then question the subject and wait. I have some records coming from Tx and they say it will take 10 weeks for 2 lousy birth certificates. We found wrong information from some as teh stories were told so much that it because true to them..but not necesary so. anyone with information of William B Wescott in Lysander NY and moved on to Janesville WIS and to Van Buren AR would be appreciated. Thank Barb,

Comments: I am intrigued by your geneology information on the name Wescott. I have a new biography of the writer Glenway Wescott appearing in Apr. Wescott said his family can be traced back to Devon and that they originally stayed in the East, then came West, as you say. He was born in Wisconsin, and wrote his early novels and stories are about Wisconsin. So it seems he is related to the Minnesota Wescotts, and the photo of James, who died at 22, looks somewhat like Glenway Wescott. Nice work.
