Comments: Very interesting info. I am descended from Stukely Westcott through Lucy Westcott, a daughter of Thomas Westcott. Thomas was the 3rd great grandson of Stukely. Thomas sided with the British in the Rev. War and ended up in Nova Scotia Canada where he died in 1809. Lucy married Gilbert Merritt and they and their family emigrated to Ontario Canada. Thomas Westcott was married 2nd to Chloe Carpenter a daughter of A.C. Carpenter and granddaughter of Caleb Carpenter.

Comments: I was reading a book about Captain Matthew Webb, who was born in 1848, one of thirteen children of a Shropshire physician. On Aug. 24, 1875, he swam the English Channel. On Jul 24, 1883, he swam the Whirlpool of the Niagara, and died. Maybe no relationship to those other Webb families, but thought you might like to know. I have the whole story of him, if your interested.

Comments: Thank you SO MUCH for all the Westcott family information!! I've just gotten started doing the genealogy for my sons and have found two lines that come back to Westcotts...I just can't get Stuckley related to Richard (1612-1650) and it sounds like from the research that I can just say they probably were related...but nothing for certain. sigh. Your articles leave hope that someone will pick up a tidbit somewhere that will relate all those WEscotts from 1600 and before. You never know what someone will have in his attic! Thank you again for making the treasure hunt so much fun! Karen

Comments: Hello Bill-Nice website for obtaining info.; I'm searching for brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents, gr. grandparents, and as far as I can go back, for the following: James Fayette Cochran married Ophelia Sutton; buried at Tomberlin Cemetary (these are my gr. grandparents on my fathers' side-George Brodie 111) of his mothers' (Sallie Cochran); her parents, in other words. James Fayette Cochran came to Ar. from Mississippi. I don't know whether Ophelia Sutton came with him via MS., or if he met her here after they arrived in Ar. I do know that he was 20yrs. older than her when they got married. She was 19/20. I have no dates except my grandmothers, (Sallie Cochran) D.O.B. 7-4-1903 and D.O.D. 7-7-1977. Sallie had 3 other brothers-Jake, Jab and William and a sister-Sadie; all now deceased. George Brodie Jr. (my G. Father) had 2 brothers-Kirk & William and 3 sisters-Maria, Abbie, & Beulah. George Brodie (Sr.) who was called, Big Papa, had no brothers or sisters. I think that it was either him or possibly his father, who came over here from Scotland. As the story goes, 3 or 4 brothers migrated to USA and had a tannery, off Stagecoach Rd., Little Rock, Ar, which here, is now called, Brodie Park. I'm not positive but besides George, there was a Hiram, Lodawick, & William Brodie. In 1838, George owned land in Pulaski Co,; then around 1857, bought more land in Lincoln Co., and then in 1861, Jefferson Co.(now known as Brodie Bend) In 1860, Hiram owned 40 acres in Crawford Co., and Lodawick (in 1839)and William (in 1860) owned land in Washington Co. I do not know for sure if they were the original brothers who came here from Scotland or how many of them, 3/4/?? Any info. on these BRODIES, COCHRANS, or SUTTONS would be greatly appreciated. My e-mail address is: ctn63959@centurytel.net. Thanks, Elizabeth Ann Brodie Dacus

The only information that I have on her is that she lived in Allegheny, PA in 1932 - and Brooklyn, NY in the mid/late 1930s. She had (possibly) three sons at the time. One of which was my father, Richard. It appears that the other two sons were not from the same father. Lillian's mother's name was Lillian as well. I did not find a marriage certificate or divorce record for Lillian and my grandfather Richard Ludwig Cappel. It's possible that the Walker side hushed up the short relationship and the family never knew of my father. He was taken from Lillian when he was about four years old.

My ancestors came to Hensall and Exeter area of the Huron Tract - a million acres purchased and subdivided into lots and sold to immigrants (Europe - mostly U.K.) by John Galt`s Canada Company beginning around 1825. Westcott`s came after 1840 I believe - from Devon area. My father was Arnold (1895-1961) his father was William (both born in area) whose many brothers and nephews scattered to the wind.
